The Glencoe Club
The Glencoe Club is a private sports club in Calgary’s Mount Royal community that has been serving its members since 1931. Club facilities allow members access to their skating rink, gym, workout facilities, pool, bowling alley, squash courts, tennis courts, and badminton courts.
Problem: There was a lack of structural reinforcement in the main divider wall between the tennis courts and badminton courts, causing damaging air leakage, water leaks, and roof leaks. With no original drawing of the existing structures and asbestos materials with its walls, this project posed a few challenges to overcome from the start.
Solution: We constructed a steel wind wall outboard of existing concrete block, provided polyurethane spray foam insulations throughout complete with a new tie-in details and fireproofing. We also replaced the roof and provided all new detailing at the parapet and roof-to-wall transitions for a complete structural and thermal and moisture protection remediation project.
Result: After reinforcing the main dividing wall and thermal and moisture resistance, we were able to increase energy efficiency and interior comfort. We also improved the exterior building esthetics for a relatively low cost.
